Because our medical spa is supervised by a physician, we are able to provide more comprehensive and advanced forms of clinical skin care procedures in combination with scientifically formulated, home-care support products.
Our mission is to provide an individualized clinical skin care plan determined strictly by the needs of each client. We offer a balance between clinical and luxury by blending the latest medical and aesthetic services and products in the marketplace. We are specialists in the correction, prevention and maintenance of sun-damaged, aging, hyperpigmented, or acne-prone skin. For our surgical patients, we offer preoperative preparation and postoperative counseling.
Skin Matters is owned and operated under the supervision of Patrick H. Pownell, M.D., who is a board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Dr. Pownell has repeatedly been recognized as one of Texas Best Doctors by Texas Monthly and D Magazines.

MICRODERMABRASION
AGERA® MicroPore® Therapy™
AGERA® MicroPore® Therapy™ is a medical grade, non-surgical procedure that is safe and effective for all skin types. The patented AGERA® MicroPore® Therapy™ system allows the technician complete customization of the treatment, while giving the client ultimate results. The technique creates MicroPores® in the skin, enhancing the penetration and effectiveness of bioactive products to achieve unsurpassed results. This procedure is effective for the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, scarring, pigmentation and texture changes. For optimal benefits, we recommend beginning with a series of five treatments. Microdermabrasion can also be repeated on a monthly basis for continuing care. Specific home care products will be recommended for maximum correction. This service is performed on the face & neck, but is also effective for the hands, arms and décolleté. Individual treatments and series packages are available.
Enhanced Microdermabrasion
Enhanced Microdermabrasion is a medical microdermabrasion procedure, as outlined above, followed by specific exfoliators, serums and enhancers, which provide deeper, faster and more corrective results. This is especially beneficial to reduce photo damage, hyperpigmentation, and the signs of aging. Minimal "down time" should be expected. For optimal benefits, we recommend beginning with a series of five treatments. Enhanced Microdermabrasion can also be repeated on a monthly basis for continuing care. Specific home care products will be recommended for maximum correction. The service is performed on the face & neck, but is also effective for the hands, arms and décolleté. Mini-Microdermabrasion
Mini-microdermabrasion is a lighter version of our regular microdermabrasion that begins with an application of an exfoliation enhancer to reduce superficial dead skin cell build-up for a bright, polished look. For the face only.
Scar Reduction
We offer scar reduction on an individualized basis. This medical microdermabrasion procedure smoothes and reduces the appearance of site specific scars from surgery or trauma, including acne scars. Healing time is involved and multiple treatments may be necessary.A consultation is required prior to treatment. Fees vary.

CHEMICAL EXFOLIATION
The Hollywood Facial
Our Signature Treatment begins with dermaplaning, a medical based, mechanical exfoliation technique which involves gently scraping away dead, dry skin. It is followed by an application of an enzyme exfoliator, antioxidant serums, hydrators and recovery products. This process stimulates cell regeneration and collagen production while it lightens and brightens the skin. It is also the perfect service before any special occasion!
Micro Exfoliation
Micro Exfoliation is a light chemical exfoliation that begins by preparing the skin with dermaplaning. Then, a gentle exfoliator, appropriate for your skin type is applied, followed by deep pore cleansing extractions and rejuvenating mask. The treatment is finished by an application of antioxidant serums, hydrators and recovery products. This procedure produces no down time and is safe and effective for every skin type. Individual treatments or series packages are available.
The Innovative Facial from iS CLINICAL®
This phenomenal, luxurious, intense clinical treatment is designed to rapidly & safely resurface the skin, reducing fine lines, smoothing, softening and encouraging cellular renewal. The centerpiece of this remarkable treatment system is a combination of two therapeutic masques. Intensive Resurfacing Masque, rich with pumpkin enzymes and potent antioxidants offers controlled exfoliation while it deeply cleans, smoothes and polishes the skin. PCA SKIN®
PCA Skin® professional treatments are scientifically formulated to gently stimulate, firm and tighten the skin at the cellular level. The progressive, in-office treatments help reduce the depth of surface lines, smooth rough skin texture, treat skin discoloration and redness, and assist in clearing acne/blemished skin. Naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), retinol and trichloracetic acid (TCA) are carefully blended and work synergistically to remove dull, damaged surface layers revealing smooth, radiant, glowing skin that is hidden below the surface.
ADVANCED CORRECTIVE SERVICES
We offer advanced clinical, anti-aging and corrective treatments and peels for the client who can afford minimal down time. These corrective treatments are appropriate for the face, neck, chest, hands or arms. The addition of Dermaplaning or Microdermabrasion is optional, depending on individual needs and skin types, for an added boost. A pre-peel consultation to determine the best treatment for your needs is required. All Advanced Corrective Services include a home care recovery kit.
Ultra Peel Forte
The Ultra Peel Forte is suitable for clients with resilient skin who have more dramatic wrinkling, sun damage and acne scaring. It will effectively treat aging skin, acne, pigment disorders, smoker's skin and photo-damaged skin. This treatment is ideal for aging skin in need of rejuvenation.
The VI Peel
VI Peel, a medical-grade chemical peel, is an effective treatment to improve several skin conditions and issues including acne, uneven skin texture or tone, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, sagging skin, photo-damage, enlarged pores and hyperpigmentation. The VI Peel also provides a more youthful look by brightening the overall appearance of the skin and improving collagen production.
Obagi Blue Peel®
This medium depth chemical peel provides maximum correction for aging, sun damage, fine lines and hyperpigmentation. The service requires the client to pre-treat with specific home care products, depending on skin type, for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the procedure. The client who prepares for 7-10 days of "down time" will achieve superb results. A home care recovery kit is included with the service. Pre treatment products are an additional cost.
